How Often Should You Return?

Every client is different and there are multiple factors involved in answering this question however there are two cardinal rules to follow

Holding on a Rope

First Consideration

Was diaphragmatic breathing an easy adjustment during your session?

Breathwork and engaging the parasympathetic system is paramount to relaxing during your session as well as in your life .

  • If you catch yourself holding your breath or using your chest to breathe regularly, scheduling a massage every 3-4 weeks should resolve the issue.

  • If holding your breath or using your chest to breathe occurs only during stressful times, scheduling a massage every 6 weeks is recommended

  • If you regularly breathe diaphragmatically then every 3-6 months is suggested for preventative care

The client's ability to determine what stimuli in their life disrupts their nervous system and fosters tension, as well as their commitment to creating boundaries to minimize access to that stimuli is the single determining factor in maintaining a massage schedule.

Second Consideration

How does your body feel three to five days after your massage?

  • If you still experience peace at your core, you're easily breathing from your abdomen and are not easily agitated after 3 days, then 4-6 weeks is an adequate rescheduling window.

  • If the peace lasts 5 days or more, self-regulation is in effect, then every 3 months is considered preventative maintenance.

Regularly scheduled massage will help to prevent injury, pain, and tension build-up in the muscle fibers, as well as address any other issues before they becomes serious. Bodywork will assist in self-regulating your nervous system during stressful periods in your life.
